1980s Windbreaker Flashback!

Did you grow up in the 1980s? Well then this windbreaker shouldn’t be a shocker to you at all. It seemed like all of us were rocking these things, ya know because everyone needs a jacket specifically for windy days and all.

If you weren’t decked out in the complete suit you at least had a jacket similar to this somewhere in the damn house. Oh and everyone knew you wearing it because you could hear it coming from a mile away. The good ole days of the 1980s windbreaker. How sweet it was and still is.

Skip Recess and Learn to Garden Instead!

Does skipping recess and learning to become a gardener or farmer sound like more fun and useful? Of course it does and that’s just what the, Grow Your Own! program is currently doing at local schools.

What started as a small local program as grown into much more, expanding to as many areas as they can handle.

“Since 2012, the Grow Your Own! program has expanded to serve 30 area schools, and now receives more applications than it can accept. The Ecology Center consults with schools about garden design and provides guidance about what to plant. The organization also offers curriculum development and ongoing training for teachers and garden volunteers.”

This is by far one of most beneficial programs I’ve heard of popping up at U.S. schools in a very long time. Typically schools focus on boasting sports programs rather than teaching skills that can help students succeed, so it’s very nice to hear that something like this is now happening.

Who knows maybe this will inspire some of you to go out there and push your schools to do the same or even start up your own program!

San Diego Wants to Turn Vacant Lots Into Gardens

San Diego is currently looking over an idea that would turn vacant lots throughout the city into gardens! Now I think that’s a great idea and would benefit a place like Toronto as well.

According to the Urban Agriculture Incentive Zone program,

“…property owners would be allowed to enter into contracts at least five years long with the city and county of San Diego to allow their vacant, unimproved or blighted land to be used for agricultural uses, like community gardens.”

This could be a triple win for the area because it puts this undeveloped land to good use, improves the look of the neighborhoods their in and helps provide produce to locals that’s grown by locals!

Not only should this pass (if it doesn’t cost more than it provides) but hopefully this will become something we see start popping up across this great country.

Converted Bus Brings Fresh Veggies to Low-Income Neighborhoods

Now this is how you convert a bus for a good cause! Up in Toronto a converted bus now brings fresh veggies to low-income neighborhoods that typically have less access to such goods.

In regards to keeping the areas flush with produce those in charge of the program said,

Everything from broccoli and lettuce, to apples and onions or other fruits and vegetables are available when the bus comes to town, twice per week.

Now at least twice per week they can get access to fresh and nutritious foods for their families. The only downside is that the upkeep of the bus and the labor behind it has made the fruits and vegetables come to these areas at not much of a bargain at all and often higher priced.

So although the idea isn’t perfect and locally owned & managed gardens or distributors could do the same at a savings to shoppers, at least they are getting access that they didn’t have prior. Plus I absolutely love the looks of that bus!

Purify Water Using Charcoal and Sand

When it comes to survival safe drinking water is key which why it’s time to learn how to purify water using charcoal and sand.

Why? The reason I think this is important is because it gives you a way to purify water for drinking when you don’t have tons of supplies or fancy survival gadgets to do it for you.

Often times we are faced with a survival situation when we least expect it so it’s always best to know how to do things without specialty tools but with natural means or with items that are easy to come by.

Check out the steps on how to purify water using just some charcoal from a fire, some sand, an old plastic bottle, and a little bit of cloth.

Revelation of God is Whole and Pulls Our Lives Together

The revelation of God is whole!

Ephesians 2:14-16

For he is our peace, who made both one, and brake down the middle wall of partition, having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; that he might create in himself of the two one new man, so making peace; and might reconcile them both in one body unto God through the cross, having slain the enmity thereby…
